Zero Deaths Reported in Multiple Vehicle Crash on Karu Bridge

Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed zero deaths while three persons sustained injuries in a multiple Road Traffic Crash (RTC) at Karu Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), confirmed the incident, which involved six vehicles, in an interview. The crash occurred at about 3.00 pm along the Aya-Nyanya route. The vehicles involved in the crash were identified as a Dangote truck, a Setraco company bus, a commercial Peugeot J5, a black Toyota Camry, a Bajaj motorcycle, and a Peugeot 406.

Ogungbemide noted that the crash was classified as serious, involving 35 persons, with 30 males and five females. Three male victims sustained injuries, including head trauma, fractures, and bruises. The crash was attributed to loss of control and the absence of adequate road signage at a construction zone managed by a Chinese construction company.

The affected victims were promptly evacuated to Asokoro General Hospital and Nyanya General Hospital for further treatment. FRSC officers from Nyanya and Karu units, along with police personnel from Karu Division, were on the scene to coordinate rescue operations, clear obstructions, and manage traffic flow.

The recovered vehicles, including the truck, the motorcycle, and the J5 bus, are currently in the custody of Karu Police Division. Ogungbemide urged construction firms to place appropriate road signs and signals at active work sites to prevent similar incidents in the future.
