Woman Faces Court for Allegedly Posting Defamatory Images on TikTok

Lagos: A civil servant named Mojisola Benson appeared before the Ogudu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State for allegedly disseminating images of another woman on social media platforms, accusing her of having an affair with her husband. Benson, who lives in the Ifako area of Gbagada, Lagos, faces a charge of breach of peace, to which she pleaded not guilty.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, informed the court that the incident occurred on April 3 in Gbagada. The allegations suggest that Benson acted in a way that could disturb public tranquility. Specifically, she posted photos of the complainant, Oyindamola Adejumola, on WhatsApp and TikTok with the caption ‘Iyawo Brother Seun aya the Owner’, implying that Adejumola was romantically involved with Benson’s husband, Babatunde Olumide.

The prosecutor further explained that this caption distressed Adejumola. Benson allegedly sent messages to Adejumola’s family members, urging them to warn her to stay away from Olumide. Moreover, Adejumola experienced public humiliation when a stranger confronted her at a financial institution in Ifako, accusing her of being involved with married men.

The court was told that Benson’s actions are in violation of Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Presiding Magistrate O. A. Daodu granted Benson bail set at N30,000, with a requirement for one surety of the same amount. The case has been adjourned for further mention on May 6.
