Ivrea: The Ivrea prosecutor’s office announced the conclusion of its investigation into the tragic incident at Brandizzo station near Turin, which occurred on August 30, 2023. During this disaster, five workers on the tracks were fatally struck by a train traveling at 160 km per hour.
According to Ansa News Agency, 21 individuals and three companies are now under investigation for culpable homicide in connection with the incident. Initially, prosecutors had been examining the possibility of charges for voluntary manslaughter with possible intent; however, these charges have been dropped.
The five workers who lost their lives in the accident were identified as Kevin Lagan , Michael Zanera, Giuseppe Sorvillo, Giuseppe Aversa, and Giuseppe Saverio Lombardo. The investigation has implicated their employer, Sigifer, as well as the rail infrastructure company RFI and the Bologna-based rail-construction firm CLF.
Notably, among those under investigation are former RFI CEOs Vera Fiorani and Gianpiero Strisciuglio. The inquiry seeks to establish accountability and understand the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
