VDM Leads Candlelight Procession for Slain Fish Farmer in Awka

Abuja: Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM), on Tuesday led a candlelight procession in memory of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, an entrepreneur and owner of Fish Magnet, a popular fish farm in Awka. Onyekere, who was a business coach, was tragically shot in his house on July 26 and subsequently taken away in his own car by unidentified assailants, only to be found dead later.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the procession traversed the major streets of Awka, making a significant stop at the well-known Arroma Junction before concluding at the deceased’s residence in Okpuno. VDM, speaking about Onyekere’s demise, highlighted that the candlelight procession aimed not only to honor ‘Fish Magnet’ but also to raise awareness about the growing insecurity in Anambra and across Nigeria. He urged relevant stakeholders to urgently address the deteriorating security situation in the region.

VDM expressed his gratitude to the youth for their large turnout, support, and peaceful conduct during the procession. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), participated in the procession and emphasized that the event was not solely about mourning Onyekere. He noted that it represented a collective demand from the residents, particularly the youths, for a significant reduction in the killings in Anambra.

Ikenga assured that the police were actively investigating the incident and following every lead received. He mentioned that the vehicle used in the crime had been recovered and that the victim’s family had provided valuable information. ‘We are confident that the perpetrators will be apprehended very soon,’ Ikenga stated. He added that their presence at the candlelight procession was to ensure the protection of individuals’ rights and to maintain order throughout the event.
