Abuja: The United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) has extended commendations to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its operational successes in curbing illicit drug activities. Director of INL in Nigeria, Ms. Candace Spradley, expressed this appreciation during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA headquarters, accompanied by her colleague, Ms. Ada Aki.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Spradley assured the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, of continued support and collaboration in tackling substance abuse and drug trafficking. She emphasized the U.S. government’s commitment to combating narcotics, particularly opioids, and strengthening the existing partnership between NDLEA and INL.
Spradley stated, “Our visit is to underscore the importance of our collaboration and to assure you that we’re ready to support your work. If there is any area of assistance you will like, we’ll be ready to assist you.”
In response, Marwa highlighted the dedication of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. He also noted the interest of former U.S. President Donald Trump in addressing the drug issue and expressed gratitude for INL’s support, which has established NDLEA as the leading anti-narcotics agency in Africa.
Marwa acknowledged the need for further assistance from the U.S. and other international partners to maintain the agency’s current successes. He identified specific areas where INL’s support would be beneficial, including operational vehicles, forensic laboratory equipment, training for forensic analysts, cyberspace and crypto investigation training, and drug testing kits for field operations.
