New York: A United Nations committee has issued a stark warning about the potential for another catastrophe akin to the Nakba, the mass displacement of Palestinians that occurred in 1948. This warning stems from the severe suffering being inflicted on Palestinians by ongoing Israeli practices.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories stated that Israel’s actions are causing unimaginable suffering. The committee highlighted the accelerated pace of land grabbing as a significant factor in Israel’s broader colonial ambitions.
The committee’s statement underscores the gravity of the situation, suggesting that the ongoing practices could lead to another Nakba. The term Nakba refers to the catastrophic displacement faced by Palestinians over seven decades ago, and the committee fears a repeat of such events if the current trajectory continues.
