Two-State Solution Advocated as Path to Peace for Palestine at UN General Assembly

New york: The Federal Government has declared that a two-state solution remains the most dignified path to achieving lasting peace for the people of Palestine. President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, made this assertion during the general debate at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Nigerian leader emphasized that the sanctity of human life should not be entangled in endless debates. Tinubu highlighted that the people of Palestine have long endured the burdens of moral conflict and violence, which offend the conscience of humanity. He stated that Nigeria approaches this issue not as a partisan entity but as peacemakers, underscoring the need for civilised values over fear, vengeance, and bloodshed.

Tinubu further articulated that the people of Palestine are not mere collateral damage in the pursuit of global order but are human beings deserving of the same freedoms and dignities as others. He stressed the importance of multilateral platforms and rule of law in building consensus and support for peace, thus denying adversaries the space to fuel tension and despair.

In his address, Tinubu mentioned Nigeria’s role as a diverse nation that acknowledges the varying forms and speeds of democracy. He noted Nigeria’s collaboration with the United Nations to enhance democratic institutions through the Regional Partnership for Democracy. Tinubu acknowledged the challenges of maintaining peace, citing Nigeria’s own experiences with difficult choices between infrastructure development and defense needs. He affirmed that sustainable peace is best achieved through growth and prosperity, highlighting Nigeria’s recent economic reforms aimed at removing distortions that favored a few at the expense of many.
