Tinubu’s Administration Enhances Infrastructure in Abuja: Wike

Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is actively transforming the FCT into a more suitable national capital. Wike remarked on this transformation during a Thanksgiving Service at St. James’ Anglican Church in Asokoro, Abuja, commemorating the successful completion of project inaugurations by Tinubu to mark his second year in office.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike noted that prior to Tinubu’s administration, progress in the nation’s capital was stagnant. He emphasized that residents are already acknowledging the changes, attributing this to a government committed to making necessary improvements. Wike conveyed that Tinubu is determined to ensure Abuja mirrors other global cities and has given clear directives to facilitate this transformation.

The minister highlighted that infrastructure, especially roads, were previously in poor condition, but significant improvements are now evident. Wike urged residents and Nigerians to be patient and anticipate further developments in the coming year. He acknowledged the resistance to his appointment due to regional biases but praised Tinubu for his steadfastness in working with individuals dedicated to FCT’s development.

Wike further explained that under Tinubu’s leadership, the FCT has begun appointing its Permanent Secretaries internally, a departure from the previous federal postings. This change aims to enhance career growth for FCT workers. Additionally, the FCT now has its own Head of Service, a position currently held by a woman from the FCT. Tinubu’s administration also facilitated improved access to funding by removing the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account, enabling more efficient execution of development projects.

The Thanksgiving Service was an opportunity to express gratitude for the successful inauguration of 17 projects within 16 days, celebrating Tinubu’s second year in office. Wike highlighted the safety and teamwork involved in these achievements, noting the absence of any accidents during the project implementations.

Earlier in the service, Vicar Ben Idume awarded Wike for his exceptional infrastructural contributions to the FCT. Idume commended Wike for overcoming opposition and proving his capabilities as FCT minister, recognizing Tinubu’s foresight in appointing him despite challenges.
