Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to urban development and improving the quality of life of residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Tinubu made this statement during the inauguration of the newly constructed Collector Road CN2 (Zakari A. Kyari Street) and other roads in Abuja, celebrating his second year in office.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the road stretches from Arterial Road N11 (Ahmadu Bello Way) in Mabushi District to Judges Quarters in Katampe District, with additional roads within Katampe constructed by the FCT Administration. Represented by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, the president emphasized his administration’s ongoing investment in critical infrastructure, identifying key areas such as roads, bridges, housing, transportation, education, and healthcare.
He stated that infrastructure development should be viewed as a beneficial investment rather than an expenditure. Tinubu assured the public of his commitment to ensuring that Nigerians experience the benefits of good governance through the delivery of infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life.
During the event, Tinubu praised the efforts of FCTA Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and his team for prioritizing infrastructure delivery. He encouraged residents of Mabushi, Katampe, and nearby areas to protect and maintain the newly constructed roads.
Minister Wike highlighted that the road construction began in October 2024 with a projected completion timeline of 12 months. However, the contractor, CGC, managed to deliver the roads in approximately nine months due to its efficient project execution capabilities. Wike noted that the new roads would not only enhance mobility and interconnectivity but also boost the local economies, particularly by increasing land prices, benefiting landowners in the area.
Wike attributed the successful delivery of infrastructural projects in the FCT to President Tinubu’s continued support. Mr. Richard Dauda, acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, mentioned that the CN2 road features a dual carriageway of two lanes each, while other roads are single carriageway. These projects aim to provide necessary infrastructure and stimulate development within the Katampe District.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that after the inauguration, Minister Wike inspected the ongoing construction of Judges Quarters in Katampe and the N5 Road (Obafemi Awolowo Way) from Life Camp to Ring Road III, which is scheduled for inauguration on Friday.
