Abuja: The Federal Government has extended its condolences to the government and people of Niger State following a petrol tanker explosion in Essa, Katcha Local Government Area, which resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, expressed the government’s sorrow regarding the tragic incident.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Idris conveyed the government’s message of mourning, emphasizing the severe consequences that fuel tanker accidents continue to have on communities. He highlighted the persistent issue of individuals risking their lives by attempting to collect fuel from fallen tankers, despite public warnings. Idris stressed the importance of valuing every Nigerian life and called for increased vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines during emergencies.
The minister praised the swift action of the Niger Government, security forces, and emergency responders in extinguishing the fire, rescuing survivors, and supporting affected families. He mentioned that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been tasked with supporting ongoing state efforts to provide relief and medical aid to victims and their families.
Furthermore, the Federal Government has instructed the National Orientation Agency to enhance public awareness campaigns on safety measures, targeting rural and high-risk areas to prevent similar tragedies. Idris extended thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families, and the people of Niger, wishing peace for the departed souls and strength for their loved ones during this difficult time.
