SFH and Niger Government Launch Household Campaign for Malaria Prevention

Paikoro: The Society for Family Health (SFH), in collaboration with the Niger Government, has initiated the mobilisation of households for a free Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITN) distribution campaign in the state. Marianne Abioyo, the Coordinator for the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and ITN campaign for Paikoro Local Government, shared this development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the campaign also includes the SMC intervention, which involves administering Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine-Amodiaquine (SPAQ) to eligible children aged 3 to 59 months as a preventive measure against malaria. Abioyo noted that the SPAQ administration is being conducted by Community Mobilisers and Distributors (CMDs) across all 11 wards of Paikoro.

Additionally, the mobilisation of households for ITN distribution is underway in eight hard-to-reach wards of Paikoro, while three wards will not receive nets. Teams are actively in the field, engaging with households and providing them with token slips to collect their nets at designated distribution points. So far, 43,000 slips have been distributed to households in Paikoro LGA.

NAN reports that approximately 3.2 million ITNs are expected to be distributed during the 2025 ITN campaign across Niger state.
