‘Qingdao in Its Youth: A Dialogue with the Future’ Hosted in Regensburg, Germany


Regensburg: Recently, ‘Qingdao in Its Youth: A Dialogue with the Future,’ hosted by the Information Office of Qingdao Municipal People’s Government, was held in Regensburg, Germany.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ms. Wang Hua, president of the Regensburg Association for Germany-China Friendship and Cultural Exchange, introduced the event’s background and the attending guests. She noted that since Qingdao and Regensburg established their friendship and cooperative relationship in 2009, high-level exchanges have been frequent and cooperation across many fields has continued to grow. She expressed hope that the event would give Regensburg residents a clearer understanding of Qingdao and further strengthen the friendship between the peoples of the two countries and the two cities.



Attendees watched the city promotional video ‘Qingdao of China,’ produced by the Information Office of the Qingdao Municipal People’s Government. The video provided an overview of Qingdao’s location, cultural heritage, economic progress, and education system, and showcased the city’s red-tiled roofs, green trees, blue sea, and clear skies, highlighting its appeal as a modern international metropolis.



Mr. Yu Zhenghao, chairman of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Regensburg and a Qingdao native, gave a detailed introduction to his hometown’s culinary specialties and scenic spots, particularly recommending mackerel dumplings and Tsingtao Beer to the German guests. Li Yijiang, a Qingdao native studying in Germany, introduced China Movie Metropolis, a film-and-TV production base in Qingdao.



Pawel, who married a Qingdao woman, shared photographs from his visits to Qingdao in 2014 and 2024, vividly illustrating the city’s transformation over the decade. He highlighted the rapid expansion of Qingdao’s metro from a single line to an eight-line network within ten years, noted clearer air and bluer skies, and described community infrastructure that is more orderly, cleaner, and more convenient than a decade earlier.



Mr. K¶nig, a noted German figure skating coach, shared his China story, including competing alongside members of the Chinese national team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Having previously visited only Beijing and Shanghai, he said Qingdao is now firmly on his itinerary for his next trip to China.



The event also featured an exhibition of urban landscape photographs that offered attendees a deeper sense of the coastal city’s character.
