Prof. Ouattara Visits ECOWAS President to Discuss Regional Development Initiatives


Abuja: The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, welcomed Prof. Wautabouna Ouattara, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the West Africa region, during a courtesy visit. The meeting, held on Friday, 8 August 2025, focused on strengthening regional economic integration and stability.



According to African Press Organization, President Touray expressed support for Prof. Ouattara’s new role and emphasized the importance of the IMF’s involvement in developing a West African regional market. He highlighted the need for programs that contribute to regional stability and integration.



Prof. Ouattara acknowledged ECOWAS’s efforts in conflict resolution and economic integration. He committed to collaborating more closely with ECOWAS and the 14 countries in his jurisdiction to tackle issues like public debt, budget deficits, and economic growth.
