Abuja: The Qur’an recitation competition, held in honour of the late Abibatu Mogaji Tinubu, mother of President Bola Tinubu, has concluded with the awarding of brand new houses to four winners. Organised by Sen. Bashir Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, the event attracted over 100 participants from all 44 local government areas of the state, aiming to encourage the reading and memorisation of the Holy Qur’an among young Nigerians.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Prof. Ali Muhammad, Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee, highlighted that the competition served to immortalise the late matriarch and instil Islamic values in the youth. The prizes included well-furnished two-bedroom houses for second place winners and three-bedroom houses for first place winners, each featuring a parlour.
Muhammad expressed that the gesture was designed to inspire young Muslims to remain dedicated to the Qur’an and its teachings. He emphasized the competition’s role in motivating young Muslims to embody the Qur’an’s principles and contribute positively to national development.
The winners were announced as Maryam Abubakar Mu’az (first place, female), Ahmad Shu’aib (first place, male), Zainab Hassan Shu’aib (second place, female), and Ahmad Kabir Bature (second place, male). The opening ceremony was graced by notable figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Emir of Daura, and former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who praised President Tinubu’s efforts in economic development and national advancement. Prayers were offered for peace, unity, and progress in the country.
