NSE Lagos Branch Enhances Educational Facilities in Local Schools


Lagos: The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Lagos Branch, has taken significant steps to improve educational facilities in three schools across Lagos State as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. The NSE’s donations aim to enhance learning environments and inspire students through the provision of essential educational tools and infrastructure.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the NSE Lagos Branch’s contributions include the donation of exercise books, musical instruments, and solar power systems. Additionally, the branch funded the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for 16 students. Infrastructure improvements included the construction of toilets and the partitioning of classrooms at one of the beneficiary schools.



During a visit to Akoka Nursery and Primary School in Yaba, NSE Lagos Branch Chairman Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, represented by Vice Chairman Mr. Bakare Opeyemi, emphasized the society’s commitment to supporting education and child development. Kesha highlighted that the school had requested a band set, which has now been provided alongside exercise books and writing materials. The society’s aim is to make learning more engaging and memorable for students, reinforcing the positive impact of engineers in their educational journey.



The Head Teacher of Akoka Nursery and Primary School, Mrs. Vivian Okeke, expressed her gratitude for the donations, noting that the drum set would motivate students to start their day with enthusiasm. She also appealed for additional support in the form of writing materials, citing the challenges some students face in accessing basic educational supplies.



At Bright Achievers Academy in Bariga, the NSE Lagos Branch contributed to the school’s infrastructure by providing exercise books, constructing six toilets, and partitioning classrooms. The branch also covered the WASSCE fees for 16 students. School Founder Mr. Seun Awobajo praised the consistent support of the NSE Lagos Branch, which has been instrumental in sustaining the school’s operations.



Awobajo highlighted the ongoing challenge of teacher salaries, noting that while facilities are important, retaining qualified educators is crucial for the school’s success. He acknowledged the NSE’s role in preventing the school’s closure and emphasized the importance of community involvement.



At Eva Adelaja Girls Senior High School in Bariga, the NSE, Lagos Branch, installed a solar power system to ensure reliable electricity for the school. Principal Mrs. Soyoye Ibunoluwa expressed her appreciation for the solar installation and called for a school bus to facilitate student participation in competitions.



NAN reports that Kesha, an alumna of Eva Adelaja Girls Senior High School, reiterated the NSE Lagos Branch’s dedication to community outreach efforts aimed at creating better learning environments for students.
