NRC Takes Firm Stance on Illegal Mining Near Rail Tracks

Jebba: The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has committed to implementing stringent measures against illegal mining activities that are damaging rail tracks. The Managing Director of the corporation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, issued this warning during a conversation with journalists in Jebba, conducted on the margins of an inspection tour of the rail tracks in Mokwa, Niger.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Opeifa labeled the miners’ activities as acts of economic sabotage that undermine the nation’s assets. He emphasized that the miners seem unaware of the consequences of their actions, which result in damage to the infrastructure managed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation. Highlighting the impact, Opeifa pointed out that the rail tracks extending from Jebba to Mokwa have been affected due to the miners’ activities, which involve burrowing into the soil.

Mr. Opeifa stated that these actions constitute economic sabotage and assured that the government is prepared to take necessary measures. He further urged the Niger Government to deploy suitable security personnel to halt the ongoing sabotage of national resources.
