Mokwa: The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has initiated a campaign aimed at educating communities on early flood warning signs to prevent disasters and mitigate impacts on residents. The announcement was made by the Director General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, during a visit to sympathize with victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Issa-Onilu emphasized the importance of disaster prevention by listening and taking necessary precautions. Their mission is to ensure that those who lost their lives and those who sustained injuries receive appropriate care.
Issa-Onilu also highlighted that NOA is collaborating with other agencies to fumigate affected areas and ensure safety in Mokwa town. The agency has deployed its staff to conduct early warning systems in flood-prone areas, working with local government authorities to educate communities on flood safety and prevention.
He mentioned that the agency is committed to continuously educating people on the dangers of floods and ensuring they take necessary precautions. After the annual flood prediction by NiMET, which identified 12 states as high-risk, NOA embarked on early warnings sensitization with local authorities to address the concerns.
