NLC Unveils CNG-Powered Buses to Boost Transportation in North-East

Yola: The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in the North-East as part of a Federal Government initiative to enhance the transportation network in the region. The unveiling took place in Yola, where Comr. Joe Ajero, President of the NLC, announced that 10 CNG buses have been allocated to the region to facilitate transportation.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ajero called on the Adamawa government to support the Federal Government’s efforts by establishing refilling stations for the CNG buses. This move aims to maximize the benefits for the residents. He also urged the Federal Government to acquire more buses, stating that the current allocation of 10 buses is insufficient to meet the region’s transportation needs.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, represented by Dr Edgar Amos, Chief of Staff at Government House, lauded the Federal Government for providing the CNG buses and echoed the call for additional buses. He praised the organized labour for their dedication to advocating for workers’ rights. Fintiri highlighted the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, emphasizing the timely payment of salaries and the acquisition of buses at subsidized rates to ease transportation.

Chairman of the NLC Adamawa Chapter, Comdr. Emmanuel Fashe, expressed hope that the new buses would alleviate transportation challenges in the state. He also acknowledged Governor Fintiri for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage and for creating a conducive environment for the labour union to host its 2025 NEC meeting in Adamawa.
