Abuja: The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has announced that Nigeria remains dedicated to the sustainable development principles of the Total Official Support for Sustainable Development (TOSSD) via the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme. This statement was made by Dr. Yusuf Yakub, the Director-General of NTAC, and was communicated through a statement signed by Nkem Anyata-Lafia, Special Assistant to the NTAC D-G, on Media and Publicity.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Yakub made these remarks at the ongoing General Assembly Meeting (GAM) of the Development Cooperation Multilateral Agency in Spain. He confirmed Nigeria’s status as a full member of the body and emphasized the significance of this role in providing sustainable development goals globally. Dr. Yakub highlighted that Nigeria has been a full member for the past 38 years, during which time it has offered the expertise of professional Nigerians to foster South-South Cooperation.
Dr. Yakub noted that with Nigeria’s current full membershi
p and contributions to TOSSD, the country has moved beyond its previous observer status in the 28-member-State body. This body includes nations such as France, Greece, and Norway, as well as Qatar, EU countries, and the Organisation of American States, among others. He recalled that Nigeria had maintained an observer status despite its significant efforts as a provider of TAC volunteer services to African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries, which long qualified it for full membership.
This year’s General Assembly Meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, features participation from all EU Member States and eight additional independent observers.
