Abuja: The Federal Government has extended its condolences to the government and people of Zambia following the passing of their former president, Edgar Lungu, who died at the age of 68 on Thursday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, delivered Nigeria’s condolences through a statement provided by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statement highlighted Lungu’s service to Zambia from 2015 to 2021, during which he guided the nation through key developments in infrastructure and regional diplomacy. His tenure was marked by the promotion of inclusivity, national unity, and economic diversification, as well as the historic appointment of Zambia’s first female president.
Nigeria also recognized President Lungu’s efforts in bolstering Africa’s collective voice on the global stage and his dedication to regional solidarity. The statement expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with the Lungu family, the Patriotic Front, and the entire Zambian nation during this period of mourning. Nigeria joins the international community in honoring Lungu’s life and legacy, offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
