Nigeria Deploys Technical Aid Corps Volunteers to Sierra Leone and Uganda


Abuja: The Federal Government has deployed 12 Technical Aid Corps (TAC) volunteers to Sierra Leone and Uganda. Dr Yusuf Yakub, Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), announced the deployment in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of the initiative.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the volunteers include professors and lecturers, selected to support the 4-D foreign policy initiative endorsed by President Bola Tinubu. Yakub highlighted the president’s commitment to promoting soft power diplomacy and Nigeria’s role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through these deployments.



Yakub expressed confidence in the volunteers’ ability to contribute to the economic development of the host countries and serve as ambassadors of Nigeria. Amb. Zakari Usman, Corps Director of Programmes, congratulated the selected volunteers, emphasizing the rigorous selection process from over 10,000 entries.



Prof. Haruna Ayuba from the University of Maiduguri, leading the team to Uganda, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to expand their expertise. He encouraged fellow volunteers to strive for excellence in fulfilling the corps’ mission. Similarly, Prof. Ngozi Alili from Kogi State University expressed pride in representing Nigeria in Sierra Leone, highlighting the government’s full support of the volunteers’ welfare.



Dr Goodness Ene-Bongilli, a lecturer at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, described the assignment as a significant opportunity for personal and professional growth. Specializing in public health, she looks forward to educating students on relevant subjects, particularly the SDG three.
