Nigeria Customs Warns Public on Fake Recruitment Test Shortlist

Abuja: The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a warning regarding a fraudulent announcement circulating across social media and messaging platforms, falsely claiming that a shortlist for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) as part of the NCS recruitment process has been released.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the NCS spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, clarified in a statement that the purported shortlist and accompanying press release are not legitimate and were not issued by the NCS. The fake announcement erroneously suggested that the CBT is scheduled for July as part of the ongoing recruitment exercise.

Maiwada emphasized that the press release in question is both fraudulent and misleading. He stated unequivocally that the NCS has not made any such announcement about a CBT scheduled for July 2025. He noted that upon examination, the fake statement exhibited several inconsistencies, particularly in its formatting. The e-signature format and recruitment timeline mentioned in the fake announcement deviate from the NCS’s official standards and established processes.

Acknowledging the public’s interest in the NCS recruitment activities, Maiwada urged citizens to refrain from engaging with, sharing, or acting upon such unverified content. He assured that genuine information regarding NCS activities, including recruitment exercises, will only be disseminated through the NCS’s official website, verified social media platforms, and recognized national newspapers.

The NCS is actively investigating the origin of the fake news and intends to hold those responsible accountable. Maiwada also mentioned that the public would be informed through proper channels when the service is ready to commence the next phase of its recruitment process. He expressed gratitude for the vigilance of concerned Nigerians and reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to protecting the public from misinformation while maintaining transparency and integrity in its processes.
