Niger Trains 1,000 Women and Youths on Livestock Production to Boost Economy

Abuja: The Niger Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has successfully trained 1,000 youths and women in livestock production as part of an initiative to enhance animal production within the state. Mr. Jonathan Wasa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, revealed this development during a livestock entrepreneurship training session for youths across Niger.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the training, conducted in partnership with the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), aims to transform the food system, support smallholder farmers, and promote self-reliance among the youth. Mr. Wasa, represented by Abbas Mohammed, Director of Animal Production in the ministry, explained that the first phase of the program would see 50 beneficiaries trained, with two participants selected from each of the 25 local government areas in the state.

The initiative is designed to change perceptions towards animal rearing and improve overall livestock production in Niger. Participants will not only receive financial empowerment but also the necessary tools and materials to kickstart their ventures in livestock production.

Dr. Matthew Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the Niger Ministry of Agriculture, urged the beneficiaries to embrace the skills learned during the training as they would be valuable for their future endeavors. Mr. Godswill Aguiyi, the Programme Officer of AGRA in Niger, encouraged participants to view the training as an opportunity to enter the business sector and make significant contributions to the agricultural industry.

The training program covered crucial topics such as livestock production economics, business development, and pasture management, offering a comprehensive educational experience for the participants.
