NGO Empowers SMEs with ICT Skills for Global Trade Participation

Abuja: The Organisation of Youth in International Trade and Commerce (OY-ITC) is equipping Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills to meet international standards. Dr. Chinedu Amadi, President of the organisation, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the initiative aims to boost the capacity of SMEs to engage in international trade by providing digital training to enhance their knowledge. The program focuses on equipping SMEs with the skills necessary to navigate online marketplaces and manage international supply chains. Additionally, it offers guidance on export regulations and procedures, preparing SMEs for both national and international trade. By empowering SMEs with these skills, the NGO aims to enhance their competitiveness in the global market.

Amadi highlighted that OY-ITC’s efforts, particularly focused on youth and women in trade, align with broader initiatives such as the International Trade Centre’s Youth and Trade and SheTrades programs. These initiatives aim to empower groups through global market access and capacity building, creating a synergistic effect in promoting inclusive and sustainable trade.

The SheTrades initiative specifically targets empowering women entrepreneurs by connecting them to markets and facilitating their participation in international trade. This is achieved by providing necessary knowledge, resources, and networks while collaborating with governments and the private sector to foster a more inclusive trade ecosystem.

Additionally, the organisation’s mission aligns with national initiatives like ‘BuyNaija,’ which aims to boost Nigeria’s export diversification. By promoting Nigerian products, fostering economic growth, and encouraging entrepreneurship, the OY-ITC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has encouraged manufacturers to shift toward export-oriented production.

NAN reports that the strategic alliance between OY-ITC and BuyNaija empowers youth entrepreneurs to engage in global trade platforms, marking a significant public and private collaboration.
