NAF and NIGCOMSAT Collaborate to Enhance National Security and Surveillance


Abuja: The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd. have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at boosting national security, technological sovereignty, and operational sustainability. This collaboration seeks to leverage space-based assets to support NAF’s operational effectiveness in secure communications, intelligence gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, this commitment was solidified during a courtesy visit by NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, in Abuja. The two organizations have pledged to strengthen inter-agency ties and focus on harnessing indigenous space technology to enhance Nigeria’s air defense and surveillance capabilities.



Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar emphasized the importance of the partnership, describing it as essential for securing and enhancing operations across Nigeria’s airspace. He highlighted NAF’s commitment to reducing reliance on foreign technologies and the necessity of seeking innovative methods to improve capabilities.



Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen commended NAF’s proactive approach and reaffirmed NIGCOMSAT’s dedication to providing mission-specific satellite services to support the Force. She stated that the partnership is crucial for strengthening Nigeria’s digital defense infrastructure and NIGCOMSAT is prepared to contribute significantly to national security.
