Molo Residents Cautioned Against Mob Justice

Molo: Molo Sub-County Police Commander, Timon Odingo, has urged residents to report crimes to law enforcement officers instead of resorting to mob justice. Odingo noted that such heinous acts deny the administration of justice to the affected people, thus the need to refrain from killing suspects; an act which greatly affects the investigation process.

According to Kenya News Agency, the police commander spoke after Chege Mwathi, a 25-year-old man, was attacked and set on fire by an angry mob in Elburgon, Molo sub-county, upon failing to provide a convincing answer to his sheep ownership question. The locals reported that Chege was found with a sheep at a trading center, leading to an unconvincing explanation that resulted in a violent mob attack, culminating in his death by being set on fire.

His charred remains were taken to Elburgon hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The police chief announced that investigations have commenced, while stressing the importance of residents adhering to legal procedures in criminal cases to ensure that suspects face appropriate consequences under the law.
