Ministry Alerts Public to Fraudulent Social Media Account

Abuja: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to the public regarding the misuse of social media accounts by individuals spreading false information about ministry officials.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, highlighted the creation of a fraudulent Facebook account purporting to be that of Permanent Secretary, Amb. Dunoma Ahmed. Ebienfa stated that this fake account is being utilized to disseminate false information, make promises of contracts, solicit assistance, and offer enticing rewards to unsuspecting individuals.

The Ministry has firmly distanced itself from this impersonation and advises the public to disregard any communications from the counterfeit account, emphasizing that it is not an official channel. Ebienfa clarified that the Permanent Secretary does not have any social media accounts.

The public is urged to avoid engaging with the individuals or groups operating the fraudulent schemes, as they are deceptive and potentially harmful. The ministry is collaborating with security agencies and Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to investigate and dismantle the fake account.

Ebienfa reiterated the ministry’s dedication to maintaining transparency and integrity while protecting citizens from fraudulent activities on all platforms.
