Lafia: The Forum of Nasarawa State House of Legislative Aides has made a formal appeal to the Speaker of the House, Dr. Danladi Jatau, requesting a salary increase that reflects current economic conditions and enhances effective service delivery. This appeal was made during a visit to the speaker’s office led by Mr. Sabo Christopher, the Chairman of the forum.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Christopher expressed gratitude to the speaker for his pragmatic and impactful leadership within the house. He highlighted that the existing salary structure does not meet the rising cost of living or the particular demands of their roles. The forum is advocating for a significant review and upward adjustment of their remuneration package to align with economic realities.
Christopher also emphasized the need for the establishment of a Sovereign Fund for Post-Tenure Support and requested regular specialized workshops and training programs for legislative aides to enhance their skills and service delivery. He assured the speaker of their continued loyalty and support, commending his leadership style.
In response, Speaker Jatau acknowledged the visit and expressed his commitment to the staff. He announced plans to organize a workshop for all legislative aides to promote effective service delivery. However, regarding the salary increment, he urged patience as the house works towards achieving full financial autonomy.
