Abuja: Dr. Yusuf Suberu, Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Road Safety Matters, has emphasized the need for collective responsibility in tackling road crashes across Nigeria, asserting that road safety is a shared responsibility for all citizens.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Suberu articulated this viewpoint on Wednesday during the 8th Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Annual Lecture Series in Abuja. The event, themed ‘Road Safety Management and Emerging Transportation Trends; Global Partnership for Optimal Performance’, highlighted the importance of recognizing individual roles in minimizing road accidents.
Suberu conveyed his gratitude to Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State for his dedication to prioritizing road safety, particularly given Kogi’s significance as a central transit route for travelers. He noted the governor’s commitment to ensuring the safety of road users, which is reflected in the state’s administrative agenda.
The Senior Special Assistant outlined his efforts to engage various stakeholders, including transport unions, enforcement agencies, community leaders, and civil society groups, in crafting sustainable solutions to reduce road crashes. He underscored the necessity of collaboration, not only at the government level but also involving grassroots partnerships.
Suberu identified inadequate road infrastructure as a major factor contributing to accidents in Kogi. He lauded President Bola Tinubu for initiating road reconstruction projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence that these efforts would significantly decrease accident rates.
He reaffirmed his office’s commitment to align with the FRSC’s vision by promoting public enlightenment, community sensitization, and private sector partnerships to enhance road safety. He also urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and prioritize safe driving practices.
Suberu concluded by reiterating his commitment to collaborating with the FRSC and transport stakeholders to ensure Kogi State serves as a model for road safety awareness and effective traffic management.
