Abuja: The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has urged Nigerians to renew their attitude towards the vulnerable in the country. He made this call during an interview with newsmen after a Requiem Mass to commemorate the life of his elder brother, Fidelis Kaigama, who passed away on June 6 at the age of 85.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Archbishop Kaigama emphasized the need for a renewed commitment to caring for the poor, marginalized, elderly, and sick, ensuring they receive the dignity they deserve. He stressed the importance of honoring both the living and the deceased, highlighting the necessity of providing care during illness. Reflecting on his brother’s life, Kaigama described him as a patriotic Nigerian committed to selfless service and dedication across various roles, including as a teacher, headmaster, general manager, lecturer, and permanent secretary.
Kaigama expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his condolence letter, as well as to other Nigerians who extended their sympathies. Damian Dodo, a close family friend, described Fidelis Kaigama as a beacon of honesty, service, and devotion, whose loss is deeply felt by the community. He underscored the significant impact of Kaigama’s kindness, generosity, and support.
Rev. Fr. Innocent Jooji, delivering a homily, noted that while death is painful, it is a passage to eternal life for believers in Christ. He praised the late Kaigama as a compassionate and honest civil servant, urging Nigerians, particularly public servants, to emulate his selfless values.
