Abuja: Dr. Ike Odenigwe, the Managing Director of Centenary City, Abuja, has called on foreign investors to explore opportunities in the Centenary City project.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project was initiated towards the end of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2014.
The 18.5 billion dollar project was designed to create a smart city, attract global investment, and position Nigeria as a prime destination for business and development. Odenigwe made the call at a news conference to re-introduce the Centenary City project to the public.
He emphasized that the project was conceptualized as the foremost Abuja Urban Renewable project, highlighting the need for direct foreign investors. He described the city project as a significant opportunity to create value, raise Abuja’s profile, and encourage international investment.
Odenigwe stated that the development is designed to integrate with the natural landscape, providing both an impressive downtown skyline and peaceful suburban living. It aims to serve as a multifunctional development offering a cosmopolitan lifestyle and a tourism hub.
Key components of the city include five-star hotels, luxury serviced apartments, an International Commerce Centre, Mall of Africa, and championship golf and polo courses. Additional features include Nigeria Park, Safari Park, Industrial Park, African Arts Museum, Entertainment District, Amusement Park, and various healthcare and educational facilities.
Odenigwe noted that after a pause in development, the project is now on track to redefine sub-Saharan Africa’s skyline and enhance Nigeria’s global standing in urban development. The management had officially engaged Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for infrastructure provision.
The project will be executed in five phases, with phase 1’s primary infrastructure costing N750 billion and including an access road and secondary infrastructure for residences. Odenigwe acknowledged Mr. Nysom Wike, Minister of FCT, for his support and invited the public to witness the project’s progress.
