Group Boosts Confidence, Leadership Skills in Young Women

Abuja: The One Impact Social Development Network has reaffirmed its commitment to working with girls to build a generation of confident and capable women who will lead the country. The pledge was made during the organisation’s EmpowerHer Workshop in Abuja to mark the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Enenede Idusuyi, Founder and Executive Director of the network, said the workshop, themed ‘Empowering Her Voice, Her Future’, was designed to build confidence, leadership skills, and life-readiness among participants. Idusuyi encouraged the 30 young women from communities across the FCT to be confident and pursue their dreams. Drawing on her own experience overcoming self-doubt, she urged them to speak up, stand tall, and take pride in who they are.

She emphasized the importance of unity and self-belief, stating, “Speak up. Stand tall. Be proud of who you are. When girls stand together, they become unstoppable. I am strong. I am enough. I am confident. My voice matters. I was born to shine.” She noted that the EmpowerHer initiative goes beyond the workshop, connecting each participant with a mentor and a peer support network for ongoing guidance and accountability.

Idusuyi further highlighted the day’s significance, saying, “This day is about raising awareness, it’s about raising you; You are enough. You are powerful. Your dreams are valid whether you want to become a doctor, a tech queen, a leader, a creator, or something the world hasn’t even imagined yet.”

The workshop brought together senior secondary students, undergraduates, and graduates aged 17 to 21 for an intensive programme combining skills-building, mentorship, and self-discovery. Sessions focused on self-awareness, identity building, mental health, emotional intelligence, public speaking, personal branding, career readiness, and financial literacy.

Participants described the workshop as a unique opportunity. Ms Patricia Kachwe from Cross River expressed her intention to apply what she had learned, while another participant, Ahima, said it gave her a head start in pursuing her goals. She added that she plans to set clear objectives and create a vision board to guide her next steps in life.
