Lagos: Greasy Tunes Caf©, Spotify’s three-week experiential pop-up event held in Lagos, proved to be a melting pot of music and culture, offering attendees a unique experience.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted in a statement that the event forged a strong connection between artists, music, culture lovers, and fans.
Okumu emphasized that the caf© celebrated the elements that Nigerians hold dear: local food and music. The initiative aimed to spotlight emerging talent, featuring Spotify Fresh Finds artists pushing the boundaries of the local music scene. Attendees discovered artists like Famous Pluto, Mavo, Braye, Amaeya, FirstKlaz, Fimi, Tolibian, YOSA, and Kunmie, who are bringing innovation and uniqueness to Nigerian music.
The event showcased the vast creative evolution shaping Nigerian music. Okumu noted the incredible energy in Lagos and the profound connection between music and culture, emphasizing how the Nigerian sound is becoming a global phenomenon. She expressed pride in Spotify’s role in this musical journey.
The event concluded with a ‘Dirty, Sexy Rave’, hosted by the Vogue Boys, marking a celebration of style and joy. This final week highlighted the revolutionary spirit of Afrobeats, anchored by the documentary screening ‘Afrobeat Rebellion’, which served as both a historical overview and inspiration for future generations.
