Enugu: The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has called on politicians across the spectrum to support the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu to collectively build the nation, regardless of their political affiliations. Mrs. Tinubu made this appeal while addressing traditional rulers in Enugu State during her visit for the distribution of professional kits to midwives through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that the nation’s diversity and differences should be harnessed positively to create a strong, safe, and prosperous Nigeria. She referred to traditional rulers as critical liaisons between the government and grassroots communities and urged them to support her vision of promoting health and wellbeing among their subjects. She also called on them to back her advocacy against cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and Female Genital Mutilation.
Mrs. Tinubu expressed that as leaders, it is their responsibility to care for all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliations. She highlighted the need for improved security to allow people to freely visit all parts of the country and appreciate its beauty. Furthermore, she outlined upcoming RHI programs such as “Flow with Confidence,” which aims to prevent adolescent girls from missing school due to their menstrual cycles, and an Environment Club/Society initiative to engage students in environmental restoration efforts.
His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, applauded the collaboration between the federal and state governments. He noted the eradication of unsafe cultural practices that hinder women’s progress in the state and commended the efforts of both President Bola Tinubu and Sen. Oluremi Tinubu to improve Nigeria.
At the event, Mrs. Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the distribution of professional kits, completing the exercise across the six geopolitical zones with Enugu as the final destination. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah praised Mrs. Tinubu as the modern Florence Nightingale for her proactive approach to addressing health issues and commended President Tinubu for his courage and dedication. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the kits provided.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that during the visit, Mrs. Tinubu presented a grant of N50 million for distribution to 1,000 women petty traders in the state under the RHI initiative.
