Abuja: The Federal Government has unveiled the Nigerian Farmers Soil Health Scheme (NFSHS) to enhance farmers’ understanding of soil management for improved productivity, quality produce, and higher income. Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi, highlighted that the scheme aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for food security.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abdullahi explained that the NFSHS is designed to promote sustainable land use, climate-smart agriculture, and regenerative farming practices. The initiative aims to revolutionize how farmers manage soil health by providing real-time insights into soil conditions, helping them boost yields, cut costs, and adopt smarter farming methods.
Abdullahi stated that the objectives of the scheme include assessing soil health status, ensuring proper fertilizer use, promoting regenerative farming, enhancing food security, and enabling data-driven insights. The benefits of the scheme encompass higher crop yields, better produce quality, sustainable land use, efficient input utilization, and informed policy decisions.
The NFSHS provides crucial information on soil nutrients, identifying what is present, what is lacking, and how to treat it effectively. Abdullahi emphasized that the initiative goes beyond science, empowering farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed. He noted that understanding soil allows farmers to plan and harvest better, ensuring healthier land for future generations.
The minister added that the launch marks ‘the beginning of a new season, one where every Nigerian farmer cultivates with knowledge, power, and peace of mind for a renewed hope.’
