Abuja: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced its efforts to repatriate stranded Nigerian nationals from the Central African Republic (CAR). Officials have made contact with the affected individuals, marking a significant step towards their return to Nigeria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, a statement by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the spokesperson for the Ministry, detailed the measures being taken by the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui. The Embassy is working with local authorities to ensure the safety and swift repatriation of the Nigerians. Officials have successfully retrieved the passports of those stranded, and arrangements have been made to transport them from Bambari to the capital, Bangui, with the assistance of a military escort.
The video of the stranded Nigerians, which has gained significant attention, showed workers abandoned by their employers in Bambari, a remote area approximately 850 kilometers from Bangui. In response, the Ministry is actively negotiating with the involved employers to secure accommodation and welfare for the stranded Nigerians while they await repatriation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of its citizens worldwide. Kimiebi Ebienfa emphasized the importance of verifying employment conditions and maintaining proper documentation when traveling abroad. Additionally, Nigerians working overseas are encouraged to register with the Nigerian Embassy to prevent similar situations.
