FG Closes Case in Alleged Terrorism Trial Against Nnamdi Kanu

Abuja: The Federal Government has closed its case in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on charges related to terrorism and treason. This development occurred on Thursday in the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the FG’s lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, made the announcement after the fifth prosecution witness, identified as EEE for security reasons, provided evidence and was cross-examined by Kanu’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu. Awomolo informed the court that, after presenting five witnesses, the prosecution was confident that the evidence, including broadcasts of IPOB activities, was sufficient to close its case.

Chief Kanu Agabi, the lead defence counsel, subsequently informed the court of their intention to file a no-case submission. Justice James Omotosho has adjourned the case to July 18, when the court will hear the adoption of written addresses related to the no-case submission.
