Enugu: The eldest son of the late veteran highlife musician, Mr. Emmanuel Ejeagha, has revealed that the family buried the ‘Gwo gwo ngwo’ crooner, Mike Ejeagha, within 24 hours of his passing to honor his final wish.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ejeagha Jnr shared in a telephone interview that his father had explicitly requested not to be embalmed after death, a wish that the family respected and fulfilled. The highlife legend was laid to rest at his country home in Umuagba, Imezi-Owa, Ezeagu Council Area of Enugu State on Saturday, merely a day after he passed away at the age of 95.
Ejeagha Jnr explained that his father had given him strict instructions as his first son, emphasizing the importance of laying him to rest within 24 hours of his death. To ensure the wish was respected, he communicated with family members and convened a meeting with his kindred, which included informing Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who agreed to uphold the late musician’s wishes.
He stressed the significance of adhering to the wishes of an elder, noting potential consequences if they were not followed. The family plans to announce details of the funeral ceremony soon.
