Abuja: The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has responded to an incident that occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, involving musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, and a ValueJet pilot.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed that K1 was scheduled to board flight VK 201 to Lagos. Preliminary findings indicated that the musician attempted to bring an unidentified liquid onboard, despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) and the Flight Captain. The regulations under international standards, including Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Security Programme and ICAO Annex 17, require liquids over 100ml to be declared and medically justified.
The musician was reportedly informed but declined to comply with the regulation. During boarding, an airline security officer requested the musician to step aside for clarification. However, the passenger allegedly refused and poured the liquid, later identified as alcohol, on the officer. The Flight Captain then intervened but faced resistance and eventually ordered the aircraft door to be closed after boarding was complete.
Despite repeated instructions, the musician moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area. Eventually, AVSEC’s crime unit escorted the musician away for investigation, and he was later released. Mrs. Orah emphasized FAAN’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel. She reiterated that FAAN would not tolerate actions that compromise operations or violate aviation safety rules, irrespective of the individual’s identity.
