Addis Ababa: Ethiopia has launched a comprehensive rural corridor development programme to transform local communities, promote sustainable agriculture, and expand eco-tourism infrastructure. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the initiative, highlighting its role in national transformation.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the rural corridor development project is part of a broader national strategy aimed at modernising rural areas, improving livelihoods, and enhancing environmental stewardship. This initiative emphasizes the importance of community participation and model practices in achieving its long-term vision.
The project includes a significant focus on eco-tourism. Under local community leadership, efforts to transform Mount Hambaricho, a natural and cultural landmark, into a tourism destination have commenced. Enhancements such as a new staircase of 777 steps have been constructed to make the mountain more accessible for activities like hiking, enjoying panoramic views, and bird watching.
Experts note that this development project underscores the Ethiopian Government’s commitment to integrated rural development, climate resilience, and the promotion of local tourism as a key economic driver.
