Kaduna: Nigeria’s pioneering electric motor company, Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC), has announced a strategic partnership with UK-based Jupiter Lithium. The collaboration aims to establish a transformative Lithium-to-Vehicle Supply Chain in Nigeria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman of EMVC, Alhaji Mustapha Audu, emphasized that the partnership will engage third-party partners to leverage Jupiter’s high-grade SC6 spodumene concentrate production in Kaduna State. This initiative is expected to create a significant opportunity to integrate lithium extraction with EMVC’s electric vehicle production, marking a pivotal step in Nigeria’s shift towards sustainable mobility solutions.
The five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies outlines a comprehensive framework to develop Nigeria’s first integrated lithium-to-electric vehicle supply chain. This collaboration is projected to improve Nigeria’s trade balance by reducing dependency on imported batteries and promoting sustainable transportation.
Audu stated that the partnership is not merely about manufacturing vehicles but about building an ecosystem that will support local capabilities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The collaboration is designed to drive sustainable economic growth and benefit Nigerian communities in the long term. Both companies will work together to identify and engage qualified third-party partners to ensure sustainable development.
Dr. Stephen Davis, Chairman of Jupiter Lithium Ltd, highlighted the strategic importance of Nigeria’s mineral wealth. He noted that the partnership addresses a critical gap in the global lithium supply chain by aligning EMVC’s expertise in sustainable mobility with Jupiter’s extensive mining operations. This collaboration aims to position Nigeria as a significant player in the global lithium value chain and support the country’s sustainability goals.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that EMVC is Nigeria’s leading indigenous electric vehicle company, known for its comprehensive manufacturing value chain. Jupiter Lithium Ltd. is a UK-based company focused on developing extensive lithium mining operations in Kaduna State, Nigeria.
