ECOWAS Vice-President Advocates for Early Warning Centre in Senegal

Dakar: The Vice-President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, H.E. Ms Damtien L. TCHINTCHIBIDJA, has conducted a high-level advocacy mission to the Government of Senegal. The focus of the mission was the establishment of the National Early Warning and Response Centre. Ms. TCHINTCHIBIDJA met with key government officials, including H.E. Mr. Cheikh NIANG, Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, on October 28, 2025; General Birame DIOP, Minister of the Armed Forces, on October 29, 2025; and H.E. Mr Ousmane SONKO, Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal, on October 30, 2025.

According to African Press Organization, these meetings are part of the ongoing efforts to decentralise the ECOWAS Regional Early Warning and Response Mechanism. This initiative was set in motion following the adoption of the Supplementary Act by the Conference of Heads of State and Government in July 2014. The project is designed to enhance the capacity of member states in crisis prevention, anticipation, and management.

During the discussions, the Vice-President highlighted the progress achieved by ECOWARN, a regional mechanism focused on conflict prevention and the promotion of human security. This system, which is operational in most member states, needs to be deployed in four remaining countries, including Senegal.
