Lagos: The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed indifference towards the recent wave of defections within its ranks. Several prominent members, including past candidates and party officials, have departed to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the list of defectors includes Prince Rufus Adeniyi, a former PDP Assistant State Organising Secretary for Lagos West, and Mr. Jerry Afemikhe, who previously ran for the House of Representatives in Surulere Constituency I. Additionally, former Lagos State House of Assembly candidates, such as Messrs. Keshinro Abiodun from Epe 1, Akeem Jinadu from Eti-Osa 1, and Ibrahim Balogun from Kosofe 2, have also switched allegiance to the APC.
The exodus continues with figures like Taofeek Obanikoro of Lagos Island 1, Tunde Pratt of Lagos Mainland 2, Saheed Aregbesola from Oshodi-Isolo State 2, Sulaimon Thompson from Surulere 1, and Taofeek Kuye from Ajeromi-Ifelodun State 1 making similar moves. Mr. Adeyemi Kazeem, former PDP Chairman of Ojo Local Government, and Pastor Gbenga Ogunleye, media aide to the 2023 Lagos PDP Governorship Candidate, are among the notable names that have defected.
The impact of these defections on the political landscape in Lagos remains to be seen as both parties adjust to the evolving dynamics.
