Abuja: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has described the death of Arise News anchor, Ms Somtochukwu Maduagwu, as regrettable. This is contained in a letter of condolence signed by Idris to the Chairman of the Arise News channel, Chief Nduka Obaigbena and issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister emphasized that her death is a grievous loss not only to her immediate family and the Arise News team, but to the Nigerian media fraternity and indeed, the nation. ‘I write to convey our deepest condolences to you and the entire ARISE News family on the shocking and untimely death of your esteemed anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu,’ the letter stated.
Idris highlighted Ms. Maduagwu’s reputation as a dedicated news anchor, consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond. He expressed sadness over the incident that claimed the life of a promising journalist in her prime and called it a grievous loss to the ARISE News family and the nation as a whole.
The minister assured that a swift investigation would be conducted to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death of the news anchor. He extended heartfelt sympathies to the parents, siblings, colleagues, and all who knew and loved Ms. Maduagwu, offering prayers for their strength in this difficult time.
