Cooperative Societies Recognized as Key Drivers of Economic Growth in Adamawa


Yola: Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has emphasized the crucial role of cooperative societies in driving economic growth and providing sustainable solutions in the society. He made this statement during the International Day of Cooperatives 2025 event held in Yola, which focused on the theme ‘Cooperatives, Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World’.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Fintiri, represented by Hammanjumba Gatugel, Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, highlighted the government’s significant investments in the cooperative sector for economic development. He stated that Adamawa is led by a cooperative-friendly administration that recognizes the importance of cooperatives in job creation and wealth generation. The government has consistently supported cooperative societies, especially in the agricultural sector, by providing inputs such as fertilizers, hybrid seeds, herbicides, insecticides, knapsacks, and water pumps for dry season farming.



Alhaji Yunusa Gafai, Chief Operating Officer of the Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P), confirmed that the state’s Agribusiness Cooperative Financing Agency has enabled farmers to access necessary farming inputs and irrigation equipment. He noted that this support has empowered thousands of rural farmers and helped many escape poverty. Gafai reiterated that cooperatives are a powerful tool for community empowerment and inclusive economic growth.



Mr. Mamman Malgwi, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, urged residents to form more cooperative societies to maximize their benefits. He pointed out that cooperative societies represent a legitimate means of generating income and attracting government support for economic advancement.



The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event also featured the presentation of awards of excellence to distinguished cooperative societies.
