CIBN Opens 160-Seater Bankers Training Hub at LASUSTECH


Lagos: Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged institutions and professional associations to collaborate with the government in shaping a robust and competitive educational future for Lagos. This call to action was made during the inauguration of a newly established 160-seater hall at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in Ikorodu, designed to train and produce chartered bankers.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the governor, represented by Mr. Tolani Sule, Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, emphasized that the hall would serve as a hub for academic discussions, seminars, and leadership talks. It is intended to nurture a new generation of financial professionals who meet global standards. The governor highlighted the role of corporate social responsibility in driving impactful educational initiatives, noting that education now thrives on innovation, collaboration, and experiential learning.



Sanwo-Olu encouraged LASUSTECH’s leadership and students to take pride in the facility, urging them to utilize it for learning, research, and professional development. He affirmed that the hub aligns with his administration’s vision to redefine tertiary education in Lagos State.



Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, President/Chairman of Council, CIBN, described the project as the 13th of its kind, reflecting CIBN’s commitment to blending academic theory with practical banking skills. The facility, named ‘The CIBN Bankers Hall,’ is part of CIBN’s effort to promote education, professionalism, and national development. Olanrewaju acknowledged the support of the university and stakeholders in completing the project.



Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, LASUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, expressed gratitude to CIBN and stakeholders involved in the project’s realization. He commended the collaboration as a model of academia-industry partnership that aligns with his vision to elevate the university to a world-class, competitive institution. He encouraged CIBN to continue collaborating with the institution to enhance excellence in response to evolving global financial dynamics, such as cryptocurrency and digital assets.



The inauguration was attended by government officials, students, bankers, and academics. The event also witnessed the signing of an agreement to integrate LASUSTECH students as chartered bankers post-graduation. Miss Vivian James, a student, thanked CIBN for the project, emphasizing its role in providing an environment conducive to nurturing future leaders. She called on CIBN to maintain its investment in the school for the continued excellence of its students.
