CAN Chairman Seeks Elders’ Intervention in Akpabio-Natasha Feud

Abuja: Rev. John Hayab, a clergyman, has called on well-meaning elders to intervene in the feud between the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central. Hayab, who is the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the cleric stated that as a responsible religious body, CAN considers the feud shameful and unfortunate. He emphasized the need for elders to step in, highlighting that both Akpabio and Natasha have individuals they respect and hold in high regard. He urged members of the National Assembly to take necessary actions to address the matter, stressing the importance of demonstrating responsibility in resolving the issue rather than assigning blame.

Hayab further commented on the seriousness of allegations such as sexual harassment, noting that Nigeria should move beyond such claims that paint individuals as underdogs or minorities. He urged the media to be cautious in their reporting to avoid exacerbating the situation and dividing Nigerians.

The CAN chairman also called on members of the National Assembly to focus their efforts on improving the lives of Nigerians, especially after passing the 2025 national budget. He appealed to all groups involved or affected by the Akpabio-Natasha feud to sheath their swords and refrain from making divisive comments along gender or regional lines.
