The statement, signed by Roy on the letter head of his organisation RMM Group, was sent to the media on Sunday.
It, however, does not say anything about his whereabouts for the last 81 days.
An ‘honorary consul’ of Belarus, Roy was whisked away by a group of men in a car on Aug 27 as soon as he came out from a bank in Dhaka’s Gulshan, according to his chauffer.
Roy has claimed that his business partner Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin had been on his toes to grab his organisations—RMM Leather Industries, RMM Knit Clothing, and RMM Sweater, which he says are valued at over Tk 1.5 billion.
In the letter, Roy claimed he was ‘abducted’ on Aug 27 while leaving after a meeting at the Union Bank in Gulshan. “The abduction was probably a result of business rivalry,” it reads.
The letter claims the abductors pressured Roy to give away his assets. “But I did not give in to those pressure and by the grace of the almighty, returned home on Nov 17.”
Roy accused his business partner Mahin, who is President of Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association of ‘unethical obstruction’ for issuing shipment certificate for his organization LIB.
He also accuses Mahin of embezzling Tk 50 million. “Mahin received Tk 50 million from another company under his name whereas the amount was supposed to be deposited in the company’s account.”
The letter also said workers of Roy’s factories were threatened and that important documents were taken away from his office without his knowledge.
Roy, a Canadian citizen who often flies back and forth between Dhaka and Toronto, has sought justice from the prime minister. He has requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure his safety at home and work.
bdnews24.com was unable to get Mahin’s comments on the allegations.
Roy’s wife Shashwati Roy confirmed bdnews24.com of his return home early on Friday but could not say where he had been for the last 81 days.
Gulshan Police Station OC Abu Bakar Siddiqui said they had no knowledge about Roy.
Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council had sought the prime minister’s intervention after Roy’s ‘abduction.’
