Abuja: The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the promotion of 30 Controllers of Corrections (CCs) to the rank of Assistant Controller General (ACGs) within the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). The Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, announced the decision on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Umar stated that the decision aligns with the commitment to merit-based advancement and professional excellence, aimed at strengthening leadership within the NCoS. Among the newly promoted officers are 27 general duty officers who have demonstrated dedication, leadership, and operational competence across various formations in the country. Additionally, three professional officers have been elevated due to their exceptional contributions in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health.
Umar highlighted that the promotion exercise is part of the ongoing reform agenda in the service, consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. This agenda is supported by the leadership of Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose commitment to enhancing the service’s efficiency and professionalism is noteworthy.
Reacting to the development, Controller General of Corrections Sylvester Nwakuche congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to enhance their efforts in service delivery, strategic leadership, and fulfilling the core mandates of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates. He emphasized that the promotion serves as both a reward for past performance and a call to higher responsibility in accordance with global best practices in correctional management. Nwakuche reaffirmed the service’s commitment to building a motivated, disciplined, and professional workforce capable of addressing the complex demands of modern corrections and public safety.
