Abuja: The Nigerian Army Headquarters, Garrison, has successfully trained 174 personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command in the use of modern security tools. The one-week training exercise, themed ‘Enhancing Tactical Efficiency Through Modern Security Tools’, aimed to equip the participants with essential skills for their roles in safeguarding lives and property.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, during the training’s closing ceremony, Maj.-Gen. Maxwell Dangana, the Garrison Commander, represented by Garrison Training Commander Brig.-Gen. Ndareke Orok, emphasized the importance of applying the acquired knowledge and skills to benefit society. He encouraged the trainees to utilize their new skills effectively, warning that unused knowledge could fade away.
The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, highlighted the practical benefits of the training in improving personnel efficiency. He pointed out that the skills gained in radio communication, map reading and interpretation, security signs and symbols, navigation, and drone operations would be invaluable in field operations. Odumosu appreciated the collaboration with the Nigerian Army Garrison headquarters, noting the training’s relevance in tackling the country’s security challenges.
Odumosu further stressed that the training was a proactive measure to enhance the skills of personnel in line with the evolving nature of security threats. He emphasized that the modern tools and techniques acquired would lead to stronger surveillance capabilities, quicker response times, and better protection of essential assets. He anticipated a rise in arrests of vandals and other criminal elements within the FCT as a result of the enhanced capabilities.
Commending the participants for their dedication and resilience, Odumosu urged them to maintain discipline and tactical efficiency to earn public trust and combat infrastructure vandalism. He reminded them of their role as custodians of specialized knowledge and the expectation to apply it with professionalism and a sense of duty.
Capt. Lucky Tapre, the training’s Chief Instructor, expressed hope that the programme would become a flagship initiative for boosting NSCDC security operations. He noted challenges such as material shortages and the need for a longer training duration for a more comprehensive study.
On behalf of the trainees, Aloko Emmanuel expressed gratitude to the FCT commandant and trainers for their support, pledging to apply and share the skills acquired. Certificates of participation were awarded to the officers and men of the command, marking the successful completion of the training.
